Dry Mix Mortar

Ready Mix Plaster — Thin Bed

A fine-graded plaster designed for thin-section application over smooth substrates — principally AAC blockwork. Because AAC blocks are dimensionally precise, they do not need the thick levelling coat conventional masonry demands. Thin Bed exploits that, cutting material consumption substantially.

How to use Ready Mix Plaster — Thin Bed

Follow this sequence for consistent results. Deviating on water ratio or open time is the most common cause of on-site failure.

1

Check the substrate

Thin Bed only works over a true, plane surface. Confirm AAC blockwork is laid level with tight joints — it cannot correct out-of-plane masonry.

2

Prepare

Clean and lightly dampen the block surface. AAC is highly absorbent; do not let it drink the mix water.

3

Mix

Add 6 litres of clean water per 40 kg bag (15% by weight) and mix mechanically for 3–5 minutes to a uniform, lump-free consistency. Allow to stand 5 minutes, then remix briefly. Do not re-temper with extra water once it stiffens.

4

Apply

Apply in a 3–6 mm layer. Level and float to a smooth finish ready for putty.

Frequently asked questions

The questions contractors and site engineers ask us most about this product.

What is the compressive strength?
13.2 MPa at 28 days with pull-off adhesion of 1.5 MPa — the highest adhesion figure in our plaster range.
How much water per bag?
6 litres of clean water per 40 kg bag, which is 15% by weight.
What coverage should I plan for?
15 sq.ft per 40 kg bag at 12 mm on a reasonably even substrate.
Why is rebound loss important?
Rebound is material that falls off during application and is wasted. This mix is formulated for very minimal rebound, which reduces both material cost and site cleanup.
What is the maximum aggregate size?
2.2 mm, which is among the finest in the industry and is what gives the mix its smooth finish.
What is the shelf life?
9 months from date of originally sealed packaging, stored cool and dry.
