Tile Adhesive

Tile Adhesive T1 — Normal Setting

A cement-based, polymer-modified thin-bed tile adhesive certified to IS 15477:2019 Type 1T and EN/ISO C1T. It replaces the traditional sand-cement bed with a 3 mm thin-bed system that is faster to lay and far less prone to hollowness.

Applications

Typical use cases where this product is specified on site.

How to use Tile Adhesive T1 — Normal Setting

Follow this sequence for consistent results. Deviating on water ratio or open time is the most common cause of on-site failure.

1

Prepare the substrate

The surface must be sound, clean, level and cured. Remove dust, laitance, oil and curing compound residue.

2

Mix

Add 5 to 6 litres of clean water per 20 kg bag and mix mechanically for 3–5 minutes to a uniform, lump-free consistency. Allow to stand 5 minutes, then remix briefly. Do not re-temper with extra water once it stiffens.

3

Apply

Spread with a notched trowel over an area you can tile within the 20-minute open time. Comb to an even ribbed bed.

4

Set the tile

Press the tile firmly into the wet bed with a slight sliding action to collapse the ribs. Check bedding on the first few tiles by lifting one and confirming full contact.

Frequently asked questions

The questions contractors and site engineers ask us most about this product.

What does IS 15477:2019 Type 1T mean?
IS 15477 is the Indian Standard for tile adhesives. Type 1T is the normal-adhesion cementitious class with slip resistance, appropriate for standard-format tiles. This product also meets EN/ISO C1T and EN 12004.
What is the open time?
30 minutes, with 25 minutes adjustability. Open time is how long the combed adhesive stays workable — tiles pressed into skinned adhesive will not bond, which is the most common cause of hollow tiles.
How much area does one bag cover?
50 to 60 sq.ft per 20 kg bag using a 6 mm x 6 mm square-notched trowel at a 3 mm thin bed. Coverage varies with notch size, tile size and substrate evenness.
How much water per bag?
5 to 6 litres of clean water per 20 kg bag. Pot life after mixing is 90 to 120 minutes.
When can the floor take foot traffic?
24 hours after laying.
When should I use T2 instead?
T1 is the normal-adhesion C1T class. For higher bond performance — large-format tiles, heavy units, wet areas — specify SilicaMix Tile Adhesive T2, which is C2T class with roughly double the tensile adhesion.
What bag sizes are available?
20 kg and 40 kg HDPE laminated waterproof bags.
