Silica Sand

1mm Dry Silica Sand

Washed, dried and precisely graded silica sand for dry mix mortars, tile adhesives, flooring screeds and industrial applications. Low moisture content is what makes it batch-consistent — wet or variably graded sand is the single biggest source of inconsistency in site-mixed mortar.

How to use 1mm Dry Silica Sand

Follow this sequence for consistent results. Deviating on water ratio or open time is the most common cause of on-site failure.

1

Confirm the grading you need

0.5–1.0 mm suits fine-section work — adhesives, grouts, thin screeds. For base coats and heavier screeds, specify the 2mm grade instead.

2

Check moisture on receipt

Supplied below 0.5% moisture. Store bags off the ground and under cover; absorbed moisture changes your batch water ratio and defeats the purpose of dried sand.

3

Batch by weight, not volume

Volume batching reintroduces the variability that graded sand eliminates. Weigh each batch for consistent mix performance.

4

Mix

Blend dry with cement and additives before adding water to avoid balling and ensure even distribution through the mix.

Frequently asked questions

The questions contractors and site engineers ask us most about this product.

What does SiO2 content above 95% mean in practice?
Silica dioxide content is the purity measure. Above 95% means minimal clay, silt and organic contamination — the impurities that weaken bond strength and cause inconsistent set in mortar and adhesive manufacture.
Why does moisture content below 0.5% matter?
Dried sand lets you control the water-cement ratio precisely. Sand carrying field moisture adds an unknown quantity of water to every batch, which is a primary cause of strength variation in site-mixed mortar.
What is the difference between 1mm and 2mm silica sand?
Grain size. The 1mm grade is 0.5–1.0 mm for fine-section applications such as adhesives, grouts and thin screeds. The 2mm grade is 1.0–2.0 mm for plaster base coats, sand-cement screeds and heavy-duty flooring.
Is silica sand the same as M-sand?
No. M-sand is manufactured sand crushed from rock for general concrete and plaster use. Silica sand is washed and graded for high silica purity, used where consistent grading and low contamination are required.
Can I order in bulk rather than bags?
Yes. Supplied in 50 kg bags or in bulk by the tonne. Contact us for bulk project pricing and delivery scheduling across Karnataka.
What grain shape is it and why does that matter?
Sub-angular. The shape affects packing density and workability — sub-angular grains give good mechanical interlock while remaining workable, which is why it suits both mortar manufacture and screed applications.
