Silica Sand

2mm Dry Silica Sand

Coarser-graded silica sand for plaster base coats, sand-cement screeds, heavy-duty industrial flooring, filtration and sandblasting. Uniformly dried for consistent bulk density — so a tonne delivered in June behaves the same as a tonne delivered in November.

How to use 2mm Dry Silica Sand

Follow this sequence for consistent results. Deviating on water ratio or open time is the most common cause of on-site failure.

1

Confirm the grading you need

1.0–2.0 mm suits base coats, screeds and heavy flooring. For adhesives, grouts and thin-section work, specify the 1mm grade instead.

2

Check moisture on receipt

Supplied below 0.5% moisture. Store bags off the ground and under cover to preserve the consistent bulk density you are paying for.

3

Batch by weight

Weigh batches rather than volume-batching. Consistent bulk density only helps if you are measuring consistently.

4

Mix

Blend dry with cement and any additives before introducing water for even distribution and to avoid balling.

Frequently asked questions

The questions contractors and site engineers ask us most about this product.

When should I use 2mm instead of 1mm silica sand?
Use the 2mm grade for base coats, sand-cement screeds, heavy-duty industrial flooring and filtration. Use 1mm for fine-section work such as tile adhesives, grouts and thin screeds where the coarser grain would compromise the finish.
What does uniformly dried mean for bulk density?
Drying removes the variable field moisture that changes how much sand fits in a given volume. Consistent bulk density means your batch proportions stay accurate delivery to delivery, which is exactly what site-sourced sand cannot guarantee.
Is it suitable for water filtration?
Yes. The grading and silica purity above 95% make it suitable for filtration media. Confirm your specific filtration specification with our technical team before ordering.
Can it be used for sandblasting?
Yes, it is used in surface preparation and sandblasting applications. Ensure appropriate respiratory protection and dust control is in place, as required for any silica blasting media.
How does this compare to river sand for screeding?
River sand grading varies by source and season, and supply is increasingly restricted. Graded silica sand gives a known particle size distribution and known moisture on every delivery, which removes a variable from screed performance.
What are the bulk order options?
Available in 50 kg bags or bulk by the tonne, with delivery across Bangalore, Mangalore, Udupi, Mysore and the rest of Karnataka. Contact us for project pricing.
